In Skaudvilė, on Mokyklos Skersgatvis, a unique sharing point operates, where people have been able to get clothes and items for 16 years. This initiative, whose motto is ‘Don’t need it – bring it; if you need it – take it,’ invites everyone, not just those in need, to share and receive help. Laima Gvazdauskienė and Jūratė Bartkienė, with their team of volunteers, coordinate this activity and promote community spirit and a culture of sharing.
This place has become a help center where people can bring and take good-condition clothes, footwear, household items, toys, and small furniture. The sharing point is open every Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM, allowing anyone in need to take as many items as they wish.
The sharing point not only provides material assistance but also offers a space for people to share their concerns and listen to others. This initiative creates a friendly atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their financial situation.
The Skaudvilė sharing point attracts support not only from local residents but also from other cities. People often bring new or lightly used clothes, toys, and household appliances. The organizers encourage everyone who has unneeded but still usable items to contribute. There is a particular shortage of clothes hangers, so everyone is invited to bring any unnecessary hangers.
The sharing point’s activities are supported by volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to helping others. Although this work is unpaid, the volunteers state that the greatest reward is people’s smiles and joy.
