Tauragė – one of 100 European cities striving to become climate-neutral by 2030
EU Mission for 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 (hereinafter – Cities Mission) – this is a European Commission program bringing together cities that are leading in the field of climate change mitigation and striving to become examples of Europe’s green transformation.
Why Cities?
Tauragė was selected for the Cities Mission as a municipality that is already purposefully working in the field of sustainability and is ready to accelerate changes. The Mission unites 100 European cities that together experiment, implement new solutions, and learn from each other, creating a path to climate neutrality for all of Europe. Participation in the mission provided access to methodological assistance from the European Commission, advice from international experts, and a common methodology according to which cities plan urban transformation.
Based on the Mission standard, Tauragė prepared a climate neutrality strategy, involving local partners, institutions, businesses, and communities. Experts from the European Commission evaluated the strategy and awarded the Tauragė District Municipality the Mission Label, which opens the way for broader funding opportunities, new partnerships, and faster implementation of planned changes. The Mission allows Tauragė to purposefully move towards a cleaner, more efficient, and future-resilient municipality.
